You guys worried about browser cookies might want to read this article from Lifehacker:

Fact and Fiction: The Truth About Browser Cookies

I would be more concerned about using an OS that is no longer supported rather than browser cookies.

For me, tracking concerns would be more about my personal info getting into the hands of the wrong people such as through websites being hacked, not companies like Google or Microsoft leaving tracking cookies on your computer. Like Peregrine said, at least these companies are giving the users something in return.

Besides, if you're downloading torrents and looking at kiddie porn, that stuff is tracked by your IP address. Unless you're taking precautions by using Qubes, Tor & browser, and proxy VPNs, your info is likely logged somewhere.

That being said, I use Google. I use ixquick.com. I hate Bing. I use Duck Duck Go occasionally. Yahoo used to be my search engine of choice, even though I would question it being a search engine by definition, as it was much more of an online directory.

I also use DuckDuckGo. If it doesn't Go then I use Ixquick.

Google doesn't know much about me and I'd like to keep it that way.
I see no benefit of a search engine having any real personal info.

No need to exacerbate the weight problem.

Dude, if you are that serious about cleaning up after yourself, why don't you use Browzar?

Yea, but see there's the thing. There's the thing that a lot of parano....err... extra cautious people just don't seem to realize. Way deep down in the heart, soul and circuits of Google, you are not John Turcoloco. You are:

Oh come on Pere, I am not paranoid, nor even that cautious. You can tell that by looking at all the (non-personal) photos and (fake) personal information I have shared with everyone on this site alone!
I even included my location! It may not be as easy to decipher as Cleveland, OH but we all know you are not really in Cleveland either, are you?

Are you?

My lack of desire to share personal info is merely due to the lack of benefit/incentive.
Paranoid people think it would cause some sort of harm, they have fear (reasonable or not).
I fear nothing and no one except my neighbor's mean as hell chihuahua!
