Comcast may still have an old modem linked to your account which generated the notice that you needed to upgrade. Send the Netgear back and go back to using the Motorola.
Thanks for the advice, but that sounds like more trouble than it's worth. I'll keep the Motorola as a backup in case I ever need it.
I have a Toshiba PCX5000 that WAS my best modem I ever had...
The problem is THE CABLE COMPANY I AM ON is not stable in levels!!! (modem kept locking up due to the extremes in signal to it)
I have a new one I could get activated but im sure they will try to give me BS about it... (Its a DOCSIS 2.0 modem I think) - It gave me FAST ENOUGH FOR ME speeds!
I had that Toshiba modem 12 years ago, it was great while it lasted, one of the early all in one devices. That is a DOCSIS 1.0 modem.

Good plan, Comcast took down one of my cable modems, luckily I had another one to connect to the internet and do online chat instead of having to call them.
Gracioius bud....... Yes its a GOOD modem and if you dont care about FAST SPEEDS (Over 10M) than this modem is fine!!
Mine actually stopped working and Adelphia said they won't make it work with their system. It was only 802.11b with WEP anyways. It was cheap real for what it was back then.
It's fine for you, it's not fine for your ISP, which is what matters. Their network, they make the rules.
I hear ya buddy........ Its sad,the good stuff always gets taken out and replaced with crappier stuff
