It's basically contributing an article, or a few, to another person's blog. Reason: so that their audience can be aware of you, get to know you, etc.

If I did however,I WOULD USE TOTALLY 100% BOGUS INFO THAT COULD NOT POSSIBLY BE LED BACK TO ME!! (But I wouldnt so the point is moot)

Are you being asked to be a guest blogger, or looking for a guest blogger to write on your blog?

Really, I don't see a lot of value in it either way. I would want to control content on my blog, and would rather have conversation via comment and discussion.

Looking. I've had guests in the past. Not a ton. Think of how the Huffington Post has guest writers. It's similar.

Let me clarify. I'm not saying I'm big like the Huffington Post. Clearly I'm not. When I say similar, I'm saying the method is similar. Plus, it's fun and social.

I've done a couple for a computer/security blogger, one was even linked back to from a Microsoft blog, although I can't find that any more, the article was done 5 years ago.

This is why I save the HTML of any guest blog post that I write. In case it's taken down, I can do as I please.

NHDave, the truth of the matter is: quality backlinks were always and still are difficult to get. So the fact that you got a backlink on a Microsoft digital property is something to always be proud of, even if it's now gone. The best backlink I've ever gotten was on Examiner, though it has no SEO value, that website does have decent organic traffic. They took down my article but I used it elsewhere because I saved the HTML even before I sent it off to them. Guess it was instinct, meaning I sorta knew they might take it down, and lo and behold, they did.

Oh I still have the articles grimace, and I'm pretty sure it's still up on the blog I posted it to, the guy keeps a lot of archives up. It was the linkback I couldn't find.
