In the beginning, Gmail was an invite-only affair, and invites would remain the only way of signing up until 2007.

My oldest still in inbox gmail is from June 10, 2004. That's a reply, so there were older emails, but got deleted...

This ^^ exactly! Few websites have access to my gmail account!

My oldest email that I've held on to is the "Why Gmail is Different" email from April 1, 2004.

I can remember GMail from before 2001, for sure, maybe earlier. Getting an "invitation" wasn't hard. So it's entirely possible that someone could have used it for 15 years. I could have had it myself back then, but I didn't see the need.

I'm curious how you remember something that was first introduced as an invitation-only beta product in 2004... 3 years prior?

Regardless, I have both. Gmail functions better, but since I have had Yahoo longer I use it more.
Neither has a good interface or intuitive works. Both seem very amateurish.
I prefer neither, and pay for "real" email.

Have used both in the past, gave them up long ago for various reasons...

Have been using Mail.com for 10+ years, started with their free mail, went to their paid account.

I don't know. Maybe I'm mistaken? I'll have to look it up. I do remember thinking about it when it first came out, but I decided that the last thing I needed was another email address.

2004? OK, so I don't remember it from before 2001. I wonder why I thought it was from before 2001?
