According to a report from the German television channel NDR, Web of Trust, one of the top privacy and security extensions out there, collects and sells a bunch of data about your browsing habits and doesn’t anonymize it properly. Anonymize it properly? Do you know what the other companies are doing with your information? I don't think so. They certainly don't reveal that. Google is a big one. Why do you think they offer everything for free? Facebook, tracking cookies that may be on your system, and the new big one, Windows 10. If you use any of these you are being tracked way more than you think AND we don't know what they are doing with the data. No real difference and I'm not surprised at this.

They're all at it, whether you've allowed them to track your activities or not. You only have to read the lengthy T&Cs when you install an app or browser, and you'll find some subtle reference of them being allowed to track your movements for "marketing and customer experience" improvement programs.
Look at Microsoft and how it more or less defaults almost all tracking activities to active on Windows 10. You have to spend an age switching everything off, and even then there's some options buried so deep in the OS you've got no hope of disabling them
I've used WOT for many years, and find it very useful. if it tracks my activities then so be it. If it was a paid product and I had the option to switch tracking off I would. But it doesn't:its a freebie and therefore I tolerate the intrusion for the sake of some added security
