I went to Hulu for the first time in years and it looks like everything now costs money. Is that correct?

Yep. Always has. Hulu was never free. Free trial maybe. Never 100% free.

^^ I do remember that at least part of it was free. Maybe not new shows and movies but they had a quite a bit of content that WAS free. That was when hulu was first coming on the scene. Not only that, imdb.com offered a lot of older movies and shows what link directly to hulu. I believe that is gone now? Back then the paid service was called hulu plus and the free was just hulu.

Edit: Apparently the free part is still available
