For the past few months, I've been getting spam with subjects related to topics I've emailed others about. For example, after emailing my loan officer regarding my mortgage, I started getting spam and scams related to loans. After I purchased insurance I started getting insurance spam. Emailed my realtor about a roof problem and now I get roofing spam. Seems every time I email someone about something, I suddenly start getting these spams and/or scams about the same topic, mostly from bogus companies. Anyone know how this is happening? My antivirus is up to date.
In general you talk to your email provider and see if they can help. Changing your PW is the first step, but I would make sure the provider was aware of the problem.
Search these forums as well. This has been discussed before by very knowledgeable people here.

I use Earthlink. I'll call them and see what they say. Thanks.
The companies that you have emailed are sharing/giving/selling your address to related businesses. Those related companies share/give/sell your address to other related and unrelated companies.
My neighbor signed up with Frontier fios. A few days later, used a Macy's coupon to purchase something on line. Next day had over 900 yes 900 messages.

Maybe. You can find out by reading their privacy policy. Large companies tend to be very jealous about not sharing email and customer contact info, so I would be surprised if that is happening. They especially would not give your email to competitors.
It may be that your email provider is sharing your email content. Google parses email messages and uses that to set your ad profile, but they don't give out your email address, it is just used to customize ads that are put in your face.
I would look first at earthlink. Check out their privacy policy. A virus is not out of the question so run a scan.

Do you use google gmail? Those weasels track everything and will send you targeted ads from your emails. And corporations will sell your information in a New York minute to anyone that will pay them. They don't guard their customer's privacy. They SAY that they will do that, but they lie.
I hate the way that the internet works now. It's nothing more than a tracking tool for corporations and the government. There is no freedom on it anymore, it's all about snooping on people and stealing their private information. I have a Tor browser and should use it. It slows things down, but pretty much keeps you anonymous and prevents this sort of privacy invasion.
