I seldom take photos but I used to use Microsoft Photo Editor years ago but they discontinued it. Then I found picmonkey's site which was great but now they are charging. I can still crop, rotate, sharpen, resize, etc. but can no longer save to my hard drive (unless there is a trick to it). They offer a free week trial but I don't want to give them my info to join and I don't know if I'll be required to save my pics on their site.
All I ever do is crop and resize/compress photos to email to friends. Is there another site where I could do that?
Super quick and easy for cropping and resizing. Can do batch jobs too. Very powerful. Free for 10+ years now. Make sure to choose IMAGES ONLY when asked on the file association page.

There is built in editor for this in Win10 for cropping. Not sure if you can can do it with web based email but for resizing only you can right click the image(s) and send to >> mail recipient. A dialog box will open that will give you options for resizing them and it will then attach them to an email in your email client.
That said Irfanview is fantastic tool. If you are sending a lot of images you can use the batch processing to resize multiple images at once. Just make sure you do not overwrite the existing ones.
IfranView > Microsoft Photos.
It's not even close.
I actually emailed Irfan Skiljan a few times. Once telling him how much I love his program and why does he give it away?
He replied he was tired of big companies charging so much for software, basically.
ONLY Business are supposed to pay for it. I actually bought a few copies for my office.
It was $10 / user.

I didn't say it was but for simple crops it's fine. For emailing the built in functions are also nice because you can simply resize on the fly as needed. As I said Irfanview is fantastic tool , in particular for batch operations if you have need for them.
It' so much more then that, though. It's 2x faster then the built in photos app. Browsing photos is faster and easier. Keyboard shortcuts are a joy to use.
I tried to use MS Photos... I wanted to like it.
It's unusable to me after using IView for so long.
I've been using Irfanview since C-D posters recommended it It's great for the simple things I do.
I hadn't used it in months but wanted to send a new pic to a friend. I just wanted to view it larger on the screen as I worked on it. The zoon box on the menu showed 31.5 so I clicked on the tiny arrow to choose 50% or larger. The box dropped down and all the choices were in CHINESE! There was a list of Chinese characters and when I clicked on any of them the number stayed at 31.5
I clicked the tiny + and - magnifying glasses and the photo got bigger or smaller
The language options are only German and English and everything else is in English.
