I just got a notification from Spotify that my e-mail address had been changed. I am wondering why someone would hack my account? I do not think they could access my payment details since it only shows the last four numbers of my cc number.

What does this criminal hope to gain?

Only for about 6 hours. Is it worth going to the trouble just to get your stolen account shut down after six hours?

These accounts don't get hacked individually. Often, they're hacked in batches. Your account might have been one in several hundred that got hacked. Now, the question is, is it worth going to the trouble just to get your stolen account shut down after six hours? Well, it's probably some kid out there doing it just for the heck of it.

OP, if you're using the same username and password across multiple sites, this is a sign that it's time to change your password. If the hackers know how to get into that account, they'll be trying that combination on other sites, and they might gain access to one that you do care about.

It might happened when a user used same password/username on different website...hacker most of the time fetch data from different resources, so if you are addicted of same password/username using online, makes a difference each time, for each website...No can easily hack the spotify account, it seems the hacker used the method i mention. thanks

OP, if you want to see how easy it is to find other sites where the same username is in use, try this site. After you do that, imagine if hackers used a tool like that and tried your cracked password on all of the sites where they found your favorite username in use! Scary, huh.
