How familiar are you with raw HTML?
It's hard to evaluate how well various tools do unless you already have a good handle on the HTML they generate for you. In my opinion, anyway...

Frontpage 98, 2000, 2002 - all work.
Frontpage extensions were EOL'd in 2004; this is due to the fact that there is now Sharepoint and Expressions Designer for Office 2007 (both of which, imho, are kind of crappy - atleast sharepoint has the bonus of collaboration).

2002, instead of 2001. Got it. I wouldn't touch FP with a 10-foot pole, so forgive me for missing the version by a year.
Bottom line is that current versions of FP haven't worked for a few years with Linux hosts.

Thats because FP is gone - its been replaced by Sharepoint and Expressions.
They have now effectively been replaced by ASP.NET controls - the majority of .NET can be run on Linux utilizing the Mono project (though I wouldn't recommend this - I don't recommend ever being tied to a single product due to proprietary code, you run into issues when that product (FP in this example) is EOL'd (people are now running into the upgrade to Expression vs moving to dreamweaver dilemma, as FPSE are pretty much toast)), so you can make use of ASP.NET by having a linux host that uses Mono.
If your office is having trouble dealing with the Frontpage EOL for its customers, look at Mono.

I highly recommend Dreamweaver. I never created or updated websites before and basically knew nothing about them, but I purchased Dreamweaver as part of my CS3 package along with a couple of books and have created a few sites. It was not as difficult as I expected.

Delta Gamma Pi Multicultural Sorority Home Page is one of my sites where I used a template....and modified it. I personally think it's not too exciting...but it definitely doesn't look homemade I also did Delta Gamma Pi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. - Delta Epsilon Chapter - Home which I'm still working on (so it's presentation isn't quite balanced, pics aren't the right size, etc.) and it's way more unique looking; but still a template.
In my experience, the "type" of website you are making will determine the route and tools you use. For example, a corporate site would be a totally different approach than a wedding site (etc.)

Uh, MissShona,
When was the last time you checked the page at the end of your first link? Multicultural huh? Well, okay..... You have been hacked!!

LOL....thanks...but I have timestamps of my file modifications....culprit changed index file at around 10:50 am on 5/27/08. Unfortunately GoDaddy (can't STAND them) had some issues today with Comcast customers accessing their servers....so I couldn't even shut the site down. Easy fix though (still have to get my flash file the right size though)...and thank goodness the main website was left alone. I guess people are really, really bored?
