Can anyone tell me how I can put a watermark on my photos posted on the internet so that they are protected from copyright fraud and theft?

I use a little application called "visualizer photo resize"... simple to use, and it will resize/watermark an entire folder of images at one time. (Saving them to a new folder and leaving the originals intact.)

Visualizer Photo Resize (Free version) download and review - batch resize photos from SnapFiles

Default IrfanView wins again!

I learned from reading further (what a concept!) that you can watermark in IrfanView. It turns out that it is very easy to do and although it's pretty plain jane stuff, it surves the purpose of warning would be thieves. Whether it will stop them is another matter. Anyway, I thought I'd let you folks know that I solved the problem. Thanks!
