With all the hype about this type of service plus Verizon Fios offer; I thought by now some companies would have joined the wagon and bring
Prices down
Make the service readily available for most persons.
Alias there are still many of us are forced to realize that these services such as verizon fios would not be attainable in the next 20 years. ( My assumption)
my guess is that the huge investment necessary is causing a barrier to entry.. 1 billion dollars for the first million residences. The cost / residence goes down as you lay more... but how many companies can support that without any guarantees?
Fiber-to-the-Premises is by far the best solution and what Verizon is doing with Fios. Cost to provide the service has gone down substantially thanks to the economy of scales but still not enough to convince every service provider to invest in laying fiber all the way to subscriber’s homes.
We can do our part to help by purchasing Verizon stock. By doing so we’ll be sending a message to all the telecom companies, Cable providers and Wall Street that we need super high-speed Internet access availability everywhere in the US. After all, it’s the only way we’re going to be able to compete globally and possibly even lessening our dependence on foreign oil. The latter will happen when more Americans are allowed to work from home.
Hype, shmype. I had Fios and it was by far the worst internet/cable/phone service I have ever had. Unreliable is the word that comes to mind, followed swiftly by overpriced.

It sounds like somebody has an ax to grind. Consumer Reports rated Verizon's Fios (http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/cu-press-room/pressroom/archive/2008/02/0802eng0802itt.htm?resultPageIndex=1&resultIndex=2 &searchTerm=fios - broken link) service number one across the board.

Thank you! Not very many pics of me, I am usually behind the camera.
I think that living here in the lightning capital of the world might have something to do with the hit or miss quality of the service I had.
I tried to find out if there was service in our town from AT&T, but was unable to get past their idiot program, which demanded to know our building number. A full address was not satisfactory.
So I thought, OK, I'll email them. There was this big thing I have to fill out, just so I could ask a simple question.
