I've had it up to here w/ Hotmail! I've been using it for years and there have been a noticeable decline in junk mail filtering w/in the past year. I stopped using my Hotmail address when signing up for new websites years ago and almost never use it in general except for receiving emails from certain stores (like BBB and Apple) and family members. almost every day for the past couple of months my inbox has been filled w/ junk mail regarding Viagra, Phoenix U, and other crap; today alone there were over a dozen Viagra ads.

I must be missing something important regarding filtering, b/c the "junk" button does not work! I don't want to set it up where I only get mail from a select group of people b/c a lot of my old friends and family member I don't talk to that much only have that address

I'm also tried of getting emails from the "Windows Live Hotmail Team", which I can't seem to opt out of! now that I think about it, I wonder if the quality of the spam filtering doesn't correspond w/ the time period when MSM/Hotmail began pushing there "new, upgraded product" into my face...

thank god for Gmail! I may just go through the hassle of alerting family and friends of emailing me through my Gmail account and just dump Hotmail altogether.

I use hotmail. I've never had any problems. I'm actually shocked at how well they filter alot of my emails.

Are you paying for it? If not, then I guess you get what you paid for?

Never heard of gmail....lol is that a bad or good thing?

I'm sorry you're having problems with Hotmail. I've had them for years and have no problems with them.

nope I don't pay for, how many people actually pay for an email service? I don't pay for Gmail either, yet am VASTLY more pleased w/ it than w/ Hotmail. w/ Gmail I can set up personalized filters and search my inbox for particular emails, features seemingly lacking in Hotmail.

you're one of the few people out there that has likely not heard of Gmail, it's been around for years though admittedly, it was by invitation first i the early beta years (though invites were crazy easy to get and give out) and google doesn't push it as much as MSN pushes Hotmail

You're not the only one. I get Viagra, Victoria Secret, Lottery Winnings (and I've never even bought a lottery ticket!), Doctor So and So's sex wonder drug, and can I interest you in a new pair of panty hose? The list never ends and I've never signed up for anything. I feel your pain!

I signed up for gmail about three months ago. Since then, I have had very little spam and all of it has gone to the spam box.

Same here. Have used Hotmail, Yahoo, etc., and will say that gmail is by far very strongly favourite email service.

I'm very happy with Yahoo, but I use GMail as my main correspondence with friends, and Yahoo for business, lists, etc. I don't think GMail is very user friendly. Yahoo is quite efficient for sorting spam, but the Nigerians know how to get through it. But New Yahoo is a blur of crap, and I stay with the traditional layout.

I have some accounts in yahoo.no (the Norwegian yahoo) and in 4 years, I have not received a single spam. I guess the spammers don't bother with the Norwegian market. The page layout is the same as regular Yahoo, but all the tabs, buttons and instructions are in Norwegian, so sometimes I have to guess what to do to navigate, or go to regular Yahoo to match up the clicks. When Yahoo introduced its "search shortcuts" feature, it was on my Norwegian page about six months before it was offered on my American Yahoo account.

I have had hotmail for over 10 years. If you use your hotmail address for purchases online, you will get spam. I don't know why because major retails say they don't sell your address. Whenever I make online purchases (I shop at BBB, amazon, target, b&n and others online) I get junk mail for months. For a while I was using a backup email address for my purchases, and that eliminated the problem.

My advice would be to give your gmail address to friends/family ONLY, and continue to use the hotmail address for purchases. This should completely eliminate the possibility of junk mail going to your gmail address.
