Question Is anyone else seeing these weird symbols all over the net?

I don't see them on this site. I don't have a virus or adware. They're all OVER flickr. At first out of the corner of my eye, it looks like some kind of Asian symbols but then when I look at them, they're squares w/ either numbers or letters inside (can't tell which). Anyone else?

They are a particularly stupid iteration of unicode. I've been seeing them and not paying a whole lot of attention. Here is one that I saw on flickr:

Browser Test Page for Unicode Character 'HEAVY BLACK HEART' (U+2764)

Like it says, if you don't have the font, you won't see the character. Since I have no desire for sites downloading a bunch of fonts onto my computers, I see these characters when someone attempts to be cutsie.

Unicode is a very useful tool for extending the character set codes to different languages which use circumflexes, chinese characters, etc., but this is just a dumbing down to allow for codified trash.

Every once in awhile, I hit the edge of a key and hit another key. I'm not the best typist in the world. Sometimes I get one of those odd characters when it happens, but it happens so fast, it's kind of hard to analyze what I've done.

What are you supposed to see? All I see are hearts. Does that mean I don't have a font?
