what are some of the advantages/disadvantages of jsp (javaserver pages) as compared to other side-scripting languages?

i'm taking a web essentials, and we're supposed to be looking at different scripting languages.

so far, i've played a bit with java-script, but haven't touched the others.

thanks. aaron out.

java != javascript

I don't know much about Java except that it sucks up a lot of server resources and does not have the following languages like PHP have. The advantage here is you have very wide array of reference material, examples, free script to build on etc.

"PHP is king, long live PHP!"

What I do know is PHP doesn't have some of the capabilities like JAVA, chat type applications come to mind immediately.
