I'm assuming Vonage want to turn a profit sometime this century.

It is worth checking Skype out again then. I have a Skype phone with 2 handsets for the house. You don't need to have your computer on. In the past I agree that quality might have been poor but as of late I don't have any issues. Viop/Sip in general has improved as cable internet/etc has improved.

Do you get your own number and does it call from that number? When I was calling with skype the caller ID came up on others phones as a very funky #.

Can someone tell me when they pay there Vonage Bills. Do they send you a bill in the mail or do they make you set it up where they deduct it from your Bank account

Yes. They have something called a "Skype Out" number that you can pick...in addition, you can add caller ID/etc. With all features added, I pay about $36/year for my phone service (of course + internet).

I'm not saying at all that Vonage is a bad service...they have e911 iirc and they company supports the phones equipment. Skype fits my needs, it may not fit everyone's...I just wanted to point out money saving alternatives

I use a land line and a 2.9 cent/min calling card that I got at onesuite.com. There are others that offer the same thing but I buy minutes and dial an 800 number to call LD calls. I have numbers programmed in for different people. It's worked for me so far.

You don't have to have it deducted from your bank account. Ours is billed to a credit card.

It's actually a $3 increase or 20 percent from $14.99 to $17.99

20 percent is big if you ask me.
