ok, i downloaded skype and have everything up and running.
for those that use skype know that it's sorta like a picture in picture thing. i put whoever i'm talking to "full screen" and i can see myself in a small screen in the corner.

i look clear and in color in my small screen, but whoever i have full screen is grainy and in black and white.

is this normal?

Could be due to the limitation of your connection, too. FS video is pretty tough to do over the intarwebs.

Are you sure that the camera at the other end is sending in color?

It could also be that the other end lacks the bandwidth to send a high-quality picture. Typically, upload bandwidth (what Skype uses to send video and audio to the other end of the call) on home broadband connections is 10-20% of download bandwidth (which Skype uses to receive video from the other end of the call).

Yahoo! Messenger has PC to PC calls for free - crystal clear and with the webcam its clear also. I use it to talk to my cousin in the Netherlands.

The webcam on the other end is very unlikely to do high resolution video, plus the bandwidth requirements for it could probably not be met. I would say that it's normal if you're going full screen. Try it without maximizing the window and see if it looks cleaner.
