Which web browser is shown below?

If you said Google Chrome, you'd almost be right but, no, it is Firefox 3.5 masquerading as Google Chrome.

IMO, Firefox 3.5 is the best all-around web browser. Yes, Google Chrome is slightly faster and has some great new features but it is still immature. Chrome is less compatible, less stable, and lacks Firefox add-on extensions.

Even so, I prefer Google Chrome's space-saving layout. So, why not use Firefox but have the "look and feel" of Chrome? The vertical space savings is especially applicable to 1024x600 netbook use.

I went looking for just that from the Mozilla Firefox Add-ons pages. Here's what I installed:

Note: some Firefox add-ons require Mozilla.org registration to download and are not fully tested

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10674

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10339

autoHideStatusbar --- https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1530 (broken link)

Hide Caption Titlebar --- https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/12366 (broken link)

If you really "need" to use Google Chrome but want the stability and extension capability of Firefox:

Chrome View --- https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/8740

Ditto for Internet Explorer use (I use this one for embedded P2P TV (TVU and Sopcast):

IE Tab --- https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419

NOTE:

Sometimes autoHideStatusbar would disable my FIND functions in the status bar.
This happened often enough that I went looking for another solution.

I did not find another status bar hiding add-on but I did also install:

Hide Find Bar --- https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6886

So far, this addition seems to have fixed the problem for some reason. Fingers crossed.

I don't what the status bar hidden, ever. I refer to it frequently as it will display the true URL of any link you hover over.

You always get to the see URLs and other status bar info. It just hides the status bar after a user-determined short delay.
