Question. If you call up Cablevision (whatever they call themselves now) and threaten to cancel service, act as if you are calling to cancel......

... Do they then refer you to the "Retention Department" and offer you a better deal?

I am presently trying to get my Mom to understand that... if she calls up, says "I want to cancel my service..."
And if they ask why? Say the truth: "Costs too much.."
And if they persist: "DirecTV..."

I am fact-checking myself first.

Do they give you the nonchalant, "Ok, bye, please return your box to.."

OR

Do they still fight to keep your business?

Thanks.

Just call and ask directly for the retention department. This can be done during the automated process. Then ask what promos they have for you.

I did that with Comcast and yes, they did offer a much better deal, about 1/3 less, but it required a one-year commitment.

Since then our finances have become much better so I haven't tried again.

It's like that with most providers. I do the same with SiriusXM. If they are offering someone, somewhere a deal there's nothing wrong with you trying to get the same.

I did that once an Comcast said, "Buh-bye!" It does not always work. Just do what Lodestar 77 said above.

This really does work, but with some places, you have to get pretty upset and nasty, for them to give in and offer you a great deal...however, they ARE permitted to make these deals, its just they obviously discourage doing it for alot of people.

My brothers wife did this with Cincinnati Bell in our area, they were paying around $130 a month for cable and high speed internet (50m), she got them to go down to around $75. a month!

Is it possible to get "Just Internet" ?

The TV here is repetitive and boring.

Maybe an HD antenna and JUST INTERNET will do.. I wonder how much they get for that....

Yes, that is possible...call your provider, they can work out packages to suit your needs.

Today is supposed to be the day. The "Retention Department" was closed on Sunday.

Let's see how this goes!

I always used to do this and they ALWAYS gave me a deal I was willing to accept.

It may help to have a viable competitor to threaten them with.

Hey, if it's Spectrum/Time Warner you already have the worst service in the nation. My prob is that I don't want a fugly dish.
