Default Firefox +Adobe Flash Update = Freeze

I tried the new Mozilla plug-in check feature today and it advised updating Shockwave Flash. Once I did so, however, I found that clicking on any story from the NY Times homepage caused Firefox to freeze. Once I uninstalled Flash, the problem went away. Re-installed it once again, and the problem returned. I haven't noticed a problem on any other site.

Any suggestions? (Besides the obvious Jack Benny joke - Patient: "Doctor, doctor, it hurts when I do this." Doctor: "Don't do that.")

The Firefox 3.5.4 update seems to have solved the problem. I reinstalled Flash after living without it for a while, and so far all seems well.

EDIT: I spoke too soon. The problem crept back in. I'm back at square one.

I gave up on trying to get Firefox and Shockwave to play nice. I use IE for those applications.

I've now tried the Firefox 3.6 beta - no success there either. This is weird. It always worked before and then, poof, it's broken. I never realized how many sites had Flash content until I had to do without it.

I've found often shockwave and flash leave behind stuff that can confuse and break firefox.

Back up your bookmarks. Completely uninstall Firefox and everything from Adobe. Go into My Documents and remove any Firefox/Mozilla debris left over, and reinstall from scratch.
