eBay issues - Any Advice Appreciated
I have been trying for three days now to get an item listed on eBay. I have spent a total of about 7 hours on the phone with customer support and have gotten nowhere.
First of all. The item belongs to my boss. He wants to try out eBay to see if it will work effectively for him. So we opened an eBay account and a PayPal account and it was up to me - as IT genius (yeah, right) to put the item on an auction because my boss is computer challenged big time.
First of all, I could not put the item on a "but it now" status because in order to do that you must "verify" your identity which has to do with answering a ton of personal questions which I cannot do unless my boss is standing over my shoulder. And considering that I do most of my work after 8 or 9 pm and also considering that he lives more than 50 miles away, he is often not available at the drop of a hat.
So, we could not "verify" identity and I could not sell the item as "buy it now". No Problem.
So I am trying to get the item listed and we need to set up a method to pay the sellers fees. I have a debit card that my boss opened for this purpose, but eBay will not take the card. Technical support asks me if the name and address on the statement is entered correctly into the screen. How do I know? I wasn't there. I dont' have a clue how my boss opened the account. I don't want to call him because this makes me look incompetent to him. He WANTS ME TO TAKE CARE OF THIS and not bother him every five minutes about it.
SO I say. Ok, no big deal. We won't use the debit card, we'll use the PayPal account. Oh, so now they need a "confirmation number" which I cannot get because my boss is not home to receive the phone call from PayPal and then call ME with the magic confirmation number. So that won't work either.
This is really beginning to become a major pain in the drain.
I really feel like jumping off a roof tongiht. I have been working non-stop for two days and I cannot even get an auction on EBAY completed without making a jillion phone calls. grrr
rant over
thanks for listening

Your boss is a twit. Twits aren't allowed on eBay.
I mean really. If you are going to set up an account for personal use, and you need help, that is one thing. To set up an account in the name of a consultant or employee? Major twithead. Give him an etch-a-sketch as his new laptop.

I could not have said it better. This guy needs to learn to do his own work when it is required of him.
That said, you are stuck. Period. without his time and effort this project is dead.

If you need to take care of it yourself, that doesn't mean "alone"! Be direct, and call your boss stating the information that is required from him or her to open the account. Or send a email, or letter. Taking charge of the situation will make you feel better, you can't be your bosses right arm if you can't take charge of the boss and steer them in the right direction. lol You have to give message as follows: The site is set, I will need this, this and this info from you then it will be a done deal. If they whine> "you do it", then just say, I am, almost finished just need your personal information to complete. If they say I don't have the time then say, ok, I will check back with you at a later date and we will try it again. No harm done, and maybe you can relax and take care of other crap. Otherwise, try a magic wand, you can find one on ebay. he he he Good Luck!

I think you need to talk to your boss and tell him what your frustrations are. If he gets bullheaded, then nothing I can say can help.
Maybe just the easiest way would be to give him the ten bucks he wants for his Elton John record and be done with it.
