I have XP right now and Windows Media Player version 9. Every time I try to download version 11 from the actual site which is www.windowsmediaplayer.com (broken link) and I save it then it says "extracting file failed. I t is most likely caused by low memory (low disk space for swapping file) or corrupted Cabinet file" but I have enough memory on my computer so I know it's not because of that. I got advice from somebody who told me to do a chkdsk and I checked the C drive and D drive and one of them said 0 bad sectors and the other didn't give results even though I did it 2 times. And when I go to help on Windows Media Player to check for updates, in the end it says that the updates were unable to install. So what should I do now???
Isn't Windows Media Player updated via Microsoft Update?

Yes, WMP11 is listed under optional software updates when you check for windows updates. You have to choose "custom" instead of "express" since "express" doesn't install optional updates.
