Thanks. We have in fact chosen to get her the Google Samsung Chromebook laptop. It seems simple enough for her needs. she's in her late 70s....so any kind of change is difficult.

Yup....the system was dying. It's been acting up for years. MSN2TV did give them some internet hosts like Webcope & Skewezer that allowed them to get some of the old functions back, but it was a losing battle. Once she gets the hang of Google Chromebook I expect she will be happy.

Yeah MSNTV2 was a nice upgrade for like a year and then once websites started making upgrades then it started to die

Those are expensive + i would need wifi which isnt cheap. As of now i dont plan to get the internet once msntv closes down. If i do i will try to buy a inexpensive laptop & get dial up service such as dialup4less.com as my net provider. They have the best dialup plan im looking for + i can be online as long as i want but i will be booted after 5 hrs & then all i gotta do is log back in. I can handle that for 9.95 (must pay 3, 6 or 12 months in advance with a 10.00 set up fee for 3 month only service). Im currently paying 21.95 a month so 3 months for 30.00 is a good deal (no refunds are permitted so thats why ill only pay for the 3 month service at a time).

I was wrong about msntv having 300k customers. They curently only have 45k & that # will continue to drop. Many are just closing their accounts now instead of waiting till msntv closes down on oct 1st. Msntv has been very easy to use & ill miss sitting on my recliner with a wireless keyboard & controlling everything using my receiver box hooked up to my 32" tv (black receiver box is 13 yrs old & still going strong). To me that was worth $21.95 mo. My next best choice will be a laptop computer w/dialup service. I just hope i can find a good used laptop for 100.00 or so dollars (maybe less).

Not sure if anyone mentioned this or not, but make sure the Output of the Device, and the native resolution of the TV, matches.
Even better is if the TV's Screen is natively 1280x720p or 1920x1080p.

Looks like MSNTV is still going to keep their dial-up service in case you want to stick with them. I guess most old laptops come with a dial-up phone jack. Good luck

The Vizio Co-Star is under $99 at several major retailers, according to Google. It also doesn't require a monthly fee to use, other than the Internet connection.

I've used GoogleTV and I'm not sure I would declare it to be an equivalent in simplicity to MSNTV2, particularly in the email department. If you're used to a computer, Google TV will be easy. If you're used to MSN TV, Google TV will seem complex by comparison.

I don't understand why anyone who has MSNTV2 service right now wouldn't just cancel the service now since they know it will be gone forever in 2 months

And yes laptops do have a dial up phone jack
