I understand there are units you can buy to hook up internet thru the TV.

I'm wanting to find some options for my step-mother. She has Comcast for TV.

I'm not really sure how it works however I did read up on it thru Wikipedia. I guess you buy a unit and have to have internet service.

Anyone familiar with this that can give me some tips of what to buy, where, what to know or avoid?

I just use my home internet connection and the Wii if I'm tool lazy to go to the computer.

Overall, internet on the TV sucks. A netbook would be a better option, IMO, unless she requires the large screen to see.

The single best answer is Roku player. There are other ways but Roku is by far the simplest and cheapest.

Roku Digital Video Player | Watch Netflix, Amazon Video On Demand and MLB.TV on Roku Player

This link will help you sort it all out.........

How to Stream Internet TV to your HDTV - Stream Cable TV from the Web - Popular Mechanics

Please be aware that connecting an analog TV to these boxes can get annoying if the analog TV doesn't have composite connections.

If your step mom likes local over the air TV all you have to do is buy a converter box (if needed) and a TV antenna to receive local stations for FREE!

As long as surfing requires keyboard and mouse input, the TV experience will be less than optimum. When a KB (about laptop size with an integrated mouse) is designed to work wirelessly with a TV and can double up as a remote, then it will be worth it. Until then...

What you've suggested is what first came to my mind, too, but it appears to be the solution to a different problem. It appears that the OP's not asking about TV delivered via Internet, he's asking about Internet delivered to the TV.

I know you well enough to know you're not using a play on words but....please... explain the difference as to what you mean here.
