Actually, I've got my DSL modem plugged into the filter and it works fine with the changes I outlined above. I've got a phone line on the same line that branches off into a voice phone and a phone modem in the computer I use for a fax.
The phones don't work without the filter. You just hear static.

Willy its strictly a modem only.

Well Willy and everyone else thanks a million for your help. Its been a learning experience. My internet experience is back to normal!

I once had a client complain about slow DSL.

I went to his house and the connection to the Internet was slower than dialup!

I did some snooping and found two filters end-to-end.

Turns out he had one in place and his son called tech support. Tech support told him to make sure there was a filter in the line, so he put one in without noticing there was already one there.
