It looks like Google changed their layout once again. First it was the fading menu at the top, which I hate. Now it's the new sidebar on the left.

What are your opinions of Google's new layout?

I don't see the point of the changes. The original site was simple and lightweight enough even for older phones and web tablets, and the new changes seem to be little more than change for the sake of change.

I don't like it.

rcsteiner, I think you're right, they made this change for change sake and not for a good reason. I didn't even think about the effect on mobile devices.

I hate the side bar and the fact that I can't turn it off. I've been using the google search engine exclusively for about 11 years and this is the first change I can remember where I was like what the hell just happened.

What sidebar? I don't see one in Firefox 3.0.19?

It's not on the google homepage, it's on the search results. Also firefox has a special google homepage. The first thing I do with firefox is change the start page from "http://www.google.com/firefox" to "www.google.com". With the firefox google homepage you don't get to see any of the nifty "holiday" Google start pages like for 4th of July etc when they change Google into the stars and stripes etc.

The sidebar seems contrary to what made google so popular--simple and effective searching. I don't like it.
