I have a Cable package which is pretty hefty, Have been researching ISP that are not as expensive.

One is Intergate : $ 8.95 a month.

There are many more.

Does anyone have an ISP thats not linked to the Cable Company and if so how is your service ?

You could always get Netzero for like $10 and you'd help save Americans almost $23 billion a year.

Of course, it would take you about 10 minutes to load this thread and video on your dialup connection

What kind of throughput? If I got 3 Mbps, I'd buy it.

No kidding. I don't download much any more and so would love a cheaper package that just brings up most web pages at least in a few secs, doesn't have to be that snap of the fingers immediate. Just sick of $30-40+ for freakin internet.

The cheapest I've seen for plain ol' dialup is All2Easy - $4.95/mo.

All2Easy also has something called Hi-Speed Dialup that's supposed to be somewhat faster than standard dialup. It's $9.95/mo.

Anyhow, you can still get by with dialup for web browsing and email. Things may load a little slowly, but usually it's adequate. Of course, downloading is impractical unless the file is very small. And watching flash videos such as Youtube is next to impossible.

You can also try a cheaper/slower DSL package. I think they go for $15 - $20 per month.

Is PeoplePC still in business? It takes a year or two of monthly phone calls to everybody in sight to get them to cancel your direct credit card billing for service.

I got a deal thru SBC for $18.99 for one year for the slowest DSL speed. It is fast enough for everything, youtube, gaming, internet, email.
I would go with the cheapest broadband I could find. Period.
I would never go back to 56K dialup, even for free.
I laugh when the cable company tries to get me to upgrade to the super fast internet: $35 + $9 for SPEED BOOST or whatever... Please...

sounds like they're using compression software; before high-speed was available to me, i purchased such a program, called "internet optimizer" i think, and it was a noticeable improvement.

you could select the compression and quality of pictures within web pages to make them load faster. it ran your connection through a proxy server.
