Interesting comments, mathjak. Thank you. I do want some currencies, and I do think inflation will be a problem. Maybe 50% in PRPFX, 50% in your 25% homegrown mix just for expermental purposes. I have time on my hands these days, so can play. I am going to put a very small amount of money in DGP or UGL after this correction and watch it like a hawk. I do like leverage.

For someone like beckycat (and my sister who's sitting on 150k give or take - she NEVER looks at her statements), PRPFX would be purrfect.

Thx, again.

i did 2/3 origonal and 1/3 the fund at one point before going back to the origonal.

its fine the way you will do it. today i do 1/2 origonal permanent portfolio and 1/2 my income and capital preservation from the fidelity insight newsletter.... the 2 give a nice balance of income and protection.

keep in mind in the permanent portfolio going forward you will have good protection but gains my be light with treasuries at all time lows, cash at lows and gold very high.

No, just one. I only have 2 other MF's and it wasn't a huge investment either but it's still a start to my retirement

Leave them alone and let this current wave of insanity wash over. If your investments were well chosen, the gains will return.

You did not withdraw the money from your IRA did you?
If you are in it for long term growth in your after-tax account then whats the worry if you are down?

I didn't withdraw. It just seems the market isn't the safest bet these days.

All I was trying to do was recoup my initial investment and I was out of the stock market.

I know they say don't sell during the panic which I'm not intending on doing. I wish I could just get my initial investment back. It seems like I'm in it for the long haul again. I'm 40 now, so maybe I will see my initial investment by retirement.

BTW, my mutual funds are solid, at least I think. I own TWCUX and BREAX.

TWCUX is not my favorite fund, but it has returned an annualized 4.88% over the last 15 years.

American Century Ultra Inv (TWCUX) Fund Performance and Returns

BREAX is not even 15 years old yet, but it's 10 year return is 10.74%...although that doesn't include the sales charge.

BlackRock International Opp Inv A (BREAX) Fund Performance and Returns

So, either the information you're giving us is inaccurate or you left out some info, or both.
