Those stocks are frauds. What exactly do they sell?

Expertise? On what, exactly?

Some of them say they are attempting to find out the medicinal properties of marijuana and market it them as drugs.

Yes, that's realistic. A bunch of former real estate agents are going to develop a new drug that billion dollar corporations with the top scientists failed to develop.

They are nothing but pump and dump shell companies that will rob you of your money.

Do not ever invest in those piece of **** penny stocks.

If you had a legitimate company, would you decide to publicize it as a penny stock? Of course not, your intention would most likely be to get as much money as you can before people find out you and your company are nothing but frauds.

I did UDOW on black Monday around 45 and change in the 401K and it's working out. AAPL say what you want about it, fairly valued and will continue to grow. In @ 111 on that one... should have been in lower. XIV as things settle down should perform well in your 401K. There's no need to do individual stocks during times of market volatility when you have VIX related and leveraged broad based ETFs you can use.

Spikes in fear and volatility which make such an obvious investing opportunity as black monday was don't come around very often... we may not see one again for years.. hopefully we do.... I was happy to see it happen needless to say... my timing was quite good with my ETFs, not as good with my individual stocks.

What 401k plan allows the purchase of leveraged etfs?

For an investment, a conglomerate like GE that can pivot from bad sectors to better ones and weather storms.

For betting purposes only, Ocata Therapeutics. You'll either go broke or get rich. (NASDAQ:OCAT)

Schwab PCRA (personal choice retirement account)

It's offered through my employer as an optional choice for those who go through the steps of signing up.

Nice thread. Should have taken the advice of some of the earlier posters on stocks like NFLX. I agree about the energy space, including CHK. Also EBAY is not a bad value at current prices. I'm assuming they'll find a way to keep revenue growth going just like Amazon did.

Anyone have any thoughts on Whole Foods (WFM) ? What about WalMart at current prices (WMT) ?

IMO KR is the best grocery stock.

I still think GILD is undervalued too and I think they have an acquisition on their horizon which is what has been keeping many away from GILD (long long term growth).

Meryll does. I know for a fact. We have a self directed option that allows us to buy any stock >$1 but no shorting or options. I have watched coworkers lose bundles to leveraged ETFs. I tried and tried to explain to them how stupid it is to be investing in them for periods longer than intraday and they don't get it. I know one guy cut a 400K balance in half in a 3x dog etf and the market just melted up for months. He refused to sell. Said he couldn't afford to sell because he would lose to much money.
