CCc - to be honest, the relative comes across as a PITA to any adviser, whether the adviser is well-intentioned or not.
(S)he better have $10 million+ to be even worth dealing with.
Just my impression from this thread of course, so could be totally wrong.
I do get where he/she is coming from, everyone likes to have things their own way, but sometimes that's not available. You can't throw a tantrum at every little thing or it quickly loses its power with whoever is trying to provide good customer service. Focus on the big negatives (1% wrap/SMA fee) not little ones (the whole documen vs first/last page of document.)

s/he didn't throw any tantrum. She would email and then get a call, to which she would ask for the info to be sent via email. There was no transparency. No detail. No documentation.

Simply Money: How to know when it's time to fire your advisor

How is the wrap a big negative?

And pee on those little guys who have less than ten mil? Heck, I'll take those customers.

She just sounds high maintenance. Again, I could be wrong.
The wrap is 1% so $10K per $1M per year. To her that should be more important than whether someone demands a complete doc vs 1st/last page of a doc. So relatively the wrap fee should be a bigger concern. It sounds from the description you gave that she is irritated at every little thing.
I am not peeing on anyone, just that the fact of life is that the more money you give to manage, the better service you get. Advisers have their pain thresholds too.

No, s/he was not irritated at every little thing. S/he repeatedly asked for email. Advisor pretty much refused. Maybe because they record the calls?

Are there any alternatives to the wrap fee? That's a lot of money.

Why do you keep typing s/he? Or saying relative?

I wouldn't do everything via email so as had been said before she'd better have a fair amount of money or I'd pass her on to a junior as well

I'm trying to not let on who it is. What's a 'fair' amount?

Why on earth would it matter if it was a male or female? Do people here know you and this person?

Million or more. 1mm charging 1% is 10k gross and the advisor gets 30-40% of that so 3-4k gross income. Net 2-3k

No, I guess I've got my tin foil hat on, nobody knows me.......

Yeah, the fair amount is there.

IDK what will happen, we'll see.

I'm really interested in how you all got to be so knowledgeable. There's so much info and misinfo out there.

Do any of you follow the Stansberry letter?

I looked up Stansberry. If this is representative, I would not trust them with my money:

Yeah, Swiss National Bank just made a joker out of this fool.

Anyway. I got knowledgeable via a combination of practice and theory - practice in the school of hard knocks investing my money, but also theory by taking the 3 CFA exams and passing all 3 on the first try.
