The best ones to short are the companies who are lagging behind the sector while the entire sector has fallen out and got smacked down.
A long while ago when KFX existed (a coal company), the entire sector dropped and this one was sitting there waiting to get smacked down. so I shorted it heavily and the stock tanked 22% in a day, I closed out. the bad part was the day after that the stock went down another 6-8% or something.
find those companies that are showing stress but have not fallen yet.
But we actually saw a lot of marijuana stocks going up when the market was done. PLPL did come down though. Lot's of momentum behind the MJ industry now though.
Apparently, I didn't ask you then. If you don't have anything to contribute, please stay out of my thread. There is always someone that has to interject their thoughts as if they are all knowning and all seeing.
I agree with him. It is a bad idea to be "shorting" anything if you need to ask for recommendations on stocks to short. Especially if you have "been through this before and lost all your money".
I am not "all knowing" or "all seeing" which is why I don't short stocks.
its fine to ask what stocks to short, its no different than askingg what stocks do you think are good buys, just with more risk, but still the same. i didnt read a single book on investing, it was from me asking a lot of questions and then doing my own research.
Anybody with experience, what do you suggest people short?
I don't usually short, because it is risky during bull markets. But if I did, then I'd choose the stock indexes or some select stocks that run up the most during rallies. The bigger they are, the harder they tend to fall.
I would paper trade for several months or more and see how it works out.
But like I said, right now I stick mainly to the long side.
