I saw there were a few articles about a week ago involving Carl Icahn, Bill Ackman and other hedge funds that have taken positions in Fannie Mae and/or Freddie Mac.

I don't own any and have no particular strong view either way, but the idea is interesting. On the one hand some members of the gov't want to wind down the two entities, which would presumably wipe out shareholders, but on the other hand they provide such a huge crutch to the housing market that it's hard to imagine there being enough political will to actually get rid of them.

Has anyone here on the investing board taken a flier on either company?

Yes, I did, weeks ago, it's old news. It's a risky stock but rewards can be huge.
