Microsoft won't catch up to Android or iOS in terms of smart phones sales on a unit basis but they'll be in third place and that's OK. I believe MSFT will improve their global smartphone market share with no problem. Windows 10 mobile is on the verge of addressing the app gap with their universal apps. Windows 10 already has more than 200 million downloads (on all machines) worldwide and the number is growing. A number of important companies likes banks, games and retail have already announced a Windows universal app is coming. The universal app strategy is working. With universal apps developers will be able to design an app for Windows 10 (PC) and the app will be able to be ported over to Windows 10 mobile. There's also the in-development iOS app 'bridge'. iOS apps will be able to get ported over to Windows 10 mobile with very little work and expense. Why wouldn't developers want to offer their products to 200 million customers and growing? The Surface tablets have had great success and even Apple is copying some features. Later this year a Windows 10 flagship smartphone is coming out that will be "very interesting": the Surface phone? Furthermore, OEMs will be introducing smartphones, tablets, PCs, smartwatches, etc. with Windows 10.

MSFT may not overtake Android and iOS but in no way shape or form are they out of the game. CEO Satya Nadella is young, smart, energetic, and talented.

I'm been in it since 2009 and will just hold my position in my IRA. I'll just buy more once we see some positive momentum, though it might be awhile. We need China and Europe to show some growth first; unfortunately they'll contract before they expand, but I'll be waiting.
