Indeed it is, and you may remember this posting. I took the profits and ran.

Thanks for giving me credit.
I have been also discussing PCN on these boards which I bought for the retirement fund n December, rode it up 6% + payouts, and then sold it all a few days back....just before it started tanking.

I get some wrong and some right -- like anyone. I was way wrong in 2013....

you sold it at the same time you were telling people to use it as a core fund.
A really poor idea

This is exactly the problem and if you can't understand why Beergeek you really don't have any business handing out recommendations

Come on man.....I'm a trader so I take profits.
Most are not traders. And for them.....PCN is fine as a core (40%) holding if combined with some other semi conservative stuff.
After all......"The markets fluctuate up and down" and "stay the course" as everyone keeps saying over and over again.

Your advice is reckless and you aren't even following it. If you were in the business of getting paid for your advice you'd get fired for doing exactly the scenario you laid out for pcn. I don't recommend it but TLT has performed better for the last few years than pcn however I'm not sure recommending a closed ended levered fund to someone as a core holding of 40% is prudent for anyone.

My sentiment is, that those who have legitimate advice to give, aren't in a legitimate position to give it. In other words, if somebody does have credible, actionable knowledge – assuming that such a thing even exists! – then it would be disingenuous, unwise or outright unethical to share that knowledge. Corollary: all publicly-available information is either wrong, pointless or at least dubious. Second corollary: the purpose of this forum is entertainment, innocent banter, and maybe an attempt at commiseration and therapy. It's not a place to garner hot stock tips.

Same here . That is rediculous for a core fund. A core fund could be like wellington , fidelity contra . A total market fund , etc.

You may be right, or maybe not.
Let's see in a year, what return has been produced by the following:

PCN (40%)
NAZ (40%)
HDGE (20%)

and compare that to wellington, contra, etc.

I'll bet it's in the same general neighborhood!
