What would you do if you just inherited $100,000? Savings? Real estate? Investing?
I would pay off my nearly $70,000 in student loans and invest the rest in a diversified porfolio. My student loans are at a low rate, but they're such a psychological burden on me! Private school and then grad school...I don't regret it, but I'll be paying for it until I'm eligible for social security. I guess that's unless my state's economy magically rises so much that we're no longer at the bottom for per capita income, or I move.
I would pay off debt, pay cash for a new car, use some for new house hoping to find soon. Then I would take a family vacation out west, bring all my kids, and have a wonderful time. Any left over would be invested with a nice amount going to homeless shelter, or a womens shelter or maybe both.
Well....when my parents and in-laws pass away.....we will inherit more than that....I've thought about it many times. I will probably have a vacation spot in Cali and put the rest away for my daughter....who knows what the world will be like for her when she is an adult!! (she's 12 now). Would probably donate a portion as well.
pay 50k cash for either a house or condo somewhere in Texas (live in CA currently - sucks here). Other 50k would go to retirement investing (mutual funds, index funds so on..)
My background:
18 college student living with parents.
Id use 10k to pay off my debts, 25k in a savings account, 20k for a new car, 10k set back for rent for when I move, 5 k for a extended vacation, 10k to various family members, 10k for random things I may want..cloths, food, etc, and I'd have to think what to do with the remaining 10k
