Well if taxes weren't already taken out, I'd stick $40K in a CD that would mature just before April 15th.

Otherwise, I'd take $20K to put on a down payment for a small home in the Dallas area. My lady has family in DFW and the real estate is amazingly cheap for such a growing area. We'd either have a family member or a trustworthy person they vet out to rent it.

I'd also take $10K and give it to my college alma mater and/or fraternity to establish a scholarship there. I was fortunate to get a scholarship myself so it would be my way of giving back.

Then I would take $20K and put it in a mutual fund or two. If that $40K I had ceded to taxes were actually mine to keep, I'd add $30K to the mutual fund to make it $50K. I would put the other $10K in a brokerage account to "play" with.

Speaking of playing, I'd take the final $10K and go on a dream vacation: either an Alaskan cruise that my lady has been dying to go on, a month-long trip to Australia... or a big pimpin' medium-roller week in Vegas.

Humane Society, ASPCA & Shelters. And get something going with high priced, publicity-savvy lawyer to get dogs out of those pondscum pet shops!!

I know 3 good people who are dying because they can't afford surgery. $100K would save their lives. That's what I would do with the money. Sad to think people are dying for lack of 35K. But it's true.

I go to Vegas every now and then and play Megabucks. I'm not a particularly religious person but I make a little 'promise' to do just this before I pull the handle. It hasn't helped yet!

I would give them the money anonymously. I would never want them to find out it was me and feel they had to scrape for the rest of their lives to pay me back. The money would come with a letter saying the best way to thank their benefactor would be to live full, happy, healthy lives. And never pass up a chance to do something good for another person.

Sappy huh? But that's what I would do! I'm not a total philanthropist, if it was a million bucks, I would do the above and then lead a life of debauchery!

It would depend. We had $175,000 profit in the bank after we sold our last house.

We paid off debt first and then spent 24K on an adoption of our 3rd child. Then we used about 125K as a down on our current house.
