I wouldn't say nobody, obviously the "average person" whatever that means, of course probably wouldn't do it, but some really wealthy people have invested tens of millions at certain points:

The Winklevoss Twins, 2013 investment in $11 million worth of Bitcoin

Barry Silbert, nabbed 48,000 Bitcoins in an auction held by the U.S. Marshals Service in 2014

Tim Draper, purchased 30,000 Bitcoins in 2014 from that same government auction

Tony Gallippi, estimates have put his Bitcoin investments around $20 million

Don't they say it takes money to make money!

The money comes from other investors, for you to sell someoen else has to be interested in buying at that price.

Everyone who's been in Bitcoin any length of time has one of these stories. I look at my old trade history selling Bitcoins at $180. Selling tons of Litecoin at $3, selling a bunch of Ethereum at $8 thinking that I was getting a good buck, oh what that would be worth today.

Even more recently I decided to try swing trading about two years back when BItcion was going from $1200 to $800 back to $1200 down to $800, it was like clockwork. I sold at $1100, and it never came back down for me to rebuy. I wound up selling what today would be like $200,000 worth of Bitcoins to make a couple hundred dollars.

A fun story on a smaller scale about a year ago I sent a buddy of mine $10 in Bitcoin to show him how it works and get him started. He forgot all about it, logged in a couple days ago and texted me it's $225, and that's less than a year ago

Bitcoin "wealth" is all theoretical. It is not money in the bank or gold in the vault. Valuation at any given instant of time is calculated from the last recorded transaction. I say again: what is better- a bird in hand or two in the bush? Get out while the going is good!

That's true of the stock market as well, my Amazon stock is worth $1162 today, if it comes out tomorrow they are using child labor the stock goes down to $500, however with any investment good luck trying to time the market. Is this the top or will we hit 25k tomorrow?

That said I agree with you it would probably be smart for people who have made significant money to at least pull out their initial investment plus a little

Not long ago I was saying 14k to 16k by end of year was a possibility, didn't necessarily think it woudl happen but at least in the realm of possibility so was really surprised when we crossed $19,000. Now I say 25K before end of year is a possibility depending upon how market reacts to Dec 18 futures opening.

I agree 50K in 2018 is very possible. I think as mainstream adoption slowly starts kicking in it could potentially go even higher. That said while unlikely if some crazy news comes out we could see 5k again. I dont see that happening but I like to say that just to make sure new investors keep some perspective and dont think bitcoin equals free moeny

2,000% gain from $100K is only $2 million. Still a lot, but nowhere near $200 million...

I sure hope you don't calculate your own taxes! LOL

... and if I had invested in AAPL back in 1986.... and MSFT in 1984.... and AMZN in 2000... I mean this game could on and on and on and on.

Life is full of "what ifs" and "I coulda been a contendahhh"

If I could have any superpower ever, it would be the ability to go in the wayback machine to whatever exact time and place I wanted, for as long as I wanted, knowing exactly what I know now. That has overtaken my previous wish of teleportation.
