Scottrade charged you, and it was for the transfer. Ask Fidelity to credit you back.

i can't say enough good things about my dealings with fidelity the last 30 years nor enough bad things about my experience with a competitor ,who's name i won't mention .

they do however rhyme with fanguard

I spoke to a guy in the Schwab office near my office. At the end of the day though, it wasn't enough to be a better deal than the simplicity and convenience of fidelity and having all our accounts in one place (save for my 401k at work with T Rowe)

I literally make 5-6 purchases a year plus a couple options trades periodically. The savings weren't worth it for me.

I just noticed this as well on my transfer to fidelity. I'll need to contact them about crediting that.

Absolutely, it's a common practice for all broker-dealers to do it. You may get some push back if there is someone new, just politely ask for a supervisor. It'll take 2 min (once you get a hold of one).

Yup the losing firms charges for the account transfers and will move the debit to your new firm if you don’t have to cash to cover it.

Yeah vanguard doesn’t charge but I’d be surprised if fidelity doesn’t. It looks like fidelity charges per account to close IRAs

i didn't close an ira , i only shifted some of it from fidelity . so i did not get charged for the ira . or the brokerage account when i shifted some of that .

on the other hand i shifted an old david lerner account years ago and david lerner charged a fee .
