Just a running list--no numbers--
Just a Yes or No...
Personally we didn't...
If we had equities in our taxable account we likely would have sold some and taken the write off
But only equities--ETFs and Index funds--are in husband's 401K...
I'm not selling anything. The market will go back up eventually.
No. I already took some losses on individual stocks (brokerage account) a few months ago, so I lowered my 401K contribution to build some cash reserves for things I had neglected as I focused on investments. I cut my 401K contribution to zero during 2008, and I'm not going to do that this time, so today I went back and increased it ahead of schedule, and to a higher point than planned.

tried to sell in the last 60 minutes. Market was falling too fast.
We are about 60% stock, 40% cash. Stocks are falling so hard and fast, that our discretionary accounts will soon be 50%stocks and 50% cash without me making another trade.
Sitting tight. The puts from my strangle from the beginning of the year (http://www.city-data.com/forum/inves...l#post50981905) are now in the money, so a further market drop over the next 4 weeks won't have any effect on portfolio value.
Given the market has already dropped this much and my downside is maxed out, I'd be happy with a further 50% drop over the next month. It will set us up for several years of good gains.
My DIA & SPY put legs of my credit collar that I put on in Jan of this year were deep in the money last Friday. Someone took a big hit. Enjoying X-Mas & will re-asses for the coming year, I see quite a few bear put spreads in my future.
