They chose the "steal it" option. By far the worse for everyone in retrospect. The Home Invasion Robbery of Iraq was set up to allow US (and some British) Oil Corporations to claim the Iraqi Oil reserves.

In this folly, not only has the oil not come through, but Bush has wasted the assets and good will that could have been used to lead US off oil. Total failure, 100% Bush and Company
I told everyone about this at the beginning, nobody listened. I said the reason Bush was invading Iraq was because he thought he could drive the cost of oil to $10 per share on the stock exchange by increasing production. Obviously he failed. I lay the blame squarely on the usual political corruption that is rampant in our Congress and in our Presidential office... Will Americans ever learn? Nope... Mission Accomplished

The government has had MANY MANY chances to get people off of oil... MANY MANY chances... we could of put a lot of tech research into improving solar power efficiency... problem is, corporations don't benefit as much... people do... last thing the government wants is for the people to have power over the corporations... Democrats are no exception to the problem, promising entitlements and fixing nothing in return... we pay more taxes as a result and become more dependent and demand more entitlements (already begun)... Democrats and Republicans don't see that, they just see whatever the corporations tell them to see which is the money that is lining their pockets...

Take a deep breath people. It is one day. 400 points in a 12,000 Dow is only 3%, hardly enough to start panicking.
What will we do when gas reaches $10 per gallon? Do what we have always done:ADAPT. Rebudget your household finances; drive less; get more practical cars; spend less money on non essential things.
Stop acting like a bunch of pansies. We are no where near what happened during the great depression. We aren't even near the '87 or '99 corrections. Put it in perspective.

Oh come on! It is not a disaster and probably next week oil will fall by $10 and the dow will be up 400 points!

They won't be happy till most of America dies and they're filthy rich.
High gas prices will be good for America in the long run. They will change America from a gluttonous inefficient model of never ending sprawl to a model of efficiency and wise decisions.

Then they need to GET some transit. Every city of any size should have at least a bus service.

One bad day and you people are acting like Jesus himself is about to come back tomorrow.

We're nearing July 4th, of course the price of gas is going up. Later it'll go down 10, up 10, and down 10 again. We'll hover around 3.80-90 until something is done about it. But saying we're going to have 8 dollar a gallon gas is silly. Not even the well off amongst us can afford that. Something will be done before it even gets NEAR that. So please, folks, close the windows and stop acting like Hoover is in office.

One really, really, really bad day in a couple of bad years means the worst is yet to come... you could easily say when the DOW drops down to 10k and say well at least its not zero so its not so bad... perspective is key... what is your perspective telling you about the future? Bad things coming and people best be prepared for it instead of thinking "its not so bad" and when it gets bad, they can't adapt fast enough because they weren't prepared...
