FRPT is my way of showing support for our troops. MCD and BKC because they pay a decent dividend and there is coming a time when the only eating out anyone can afford are these two burger joints.
Now would be a good time to invest in a CD or two and just hold it, roll it over when it's due and then hold it again. Savings bonds will always be there for you and mutual funds should round out your portfolio with a Roth IRA. Always focus on the horizon rather than the current sunburn.

I'm putting significant IRA money in DOM -- Dominion Resources Trust. Dividend yield is 20%! The rest is in a Ginnie Mae fund and cash.
Having made a quick $1037 on MSFT in my non-retirement, I'm shopping the Proshares Ultra Shorts: DXD -- DOW 30
SKF -- financials
DUG -- oil
EVW -- Japan and Proshares Ultra Long: RXL -- Healthcare If I buy EVW and it falls 9%, I'm up 18%, for instance. Haven't pulled the trigger yet though.

if you are looking at the horizon you would not invest at all. the horizon currently shows a potential obama win, with warren buffett as treasury secretary, and a wall street controlled money supply. what chance does the little guy have then in the market?

I like Nokia, IMHO Dell is not going to be strong.

i have been reading Jamie Dimon as Treasury Sec. Buffett is older than McCain. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I bought GE, MFST and Pfizer this week. Still feel good about but don't have 30 years to wait.

I've been holding onto PFE since I think it will come back sooner than the rest of the market. I also own BRK.B since I like the Buffet strategy.
I'm not sure I would buy anything except the ultra shorts like SKF. But SKF doesn't seem to consistently go up even though the financials keep getting lower (I probably don't understand short sales as much as I should). I would have thought SKF would be over 200 now with all the banking problems - I've bought it near 100 and sold it over 120 I think twice so far this year.

Dunno troop. If they up the tax on dividends, we'll be SOL. But good luck.

200 shares of Ford Motor (F) last week.
Why are SIRI shares so low?
