Interesting Graphs
OFHEO Home Price Indices
You can choose a different city in the drop down box. This graph compares a house price index to a per capita income index.
If you select your city, does the data match what you have observed in your city?

It says that the ratios are still rising. No leveling off, and no drop at all.

in my area FTW TX--the home price index is less than income--but we have had significant income growth in this area due to the Barnett Shale activity in past 5 years--more people have jobs and for some people their net worth has significantly increase...graph shows that housing is still under income...which is probably right--although I definitely think that home prices have been inflated to some degree--not like other areas of the country however--because basically you get more house for your money here anyway...
I was surprised to see a town like Waco that has strong economy due to the university there and its location along I-35 -- a real growth magnet--has been going neck and neck with income and housing--so housing has been rising there very fast--
no index for Sarasota FL where my daughter lives--but Tampa shows housing priced higher than income--not to say that housing values are strong but that income is weak--that is not a jobs mecca...and certainly did not see any real drop off the cliff points when I looked at other areas...
so what is this telling us--we are in real inflationary times and don't know it already--even before the injection of such fast/cheap money into TARP and other rescue plans are more than a couple of months old?
that we are not as bad off as we thought or that the media is telling us????

Thanks for the comments. I love looking at data like this. My city did not have a trend I expected. The housing price index was higher than the per capita income index for the current year only. In previous years the housing price index was lower.

Great charts. Too bad it only goes through 2008. I'd really like to find out what is going on in this market now.
