Default Stocks 101

Hey there ladies and gents.
Was rambling the site and seems that I didn't find one thread that would cover it all about stocks and good funds and sites that would be a goody to check out. So, if nobody minds, I want this thread to be dedicated to exactly that, but without all the bumph and useless rubbish.

I'm currently in the search of a good site that would expand my knowledge on the subject of stocks. Have seen most of whatever is out there, but for some reason believe there are still some hidden jewels I might not know of yet.
So, off we go on this journey of investing. It would be quite nice to hear any stories or experiences you might have had with the stock market, I'll throw in a couple as we go along.

This is a good site.

Your desire to start yet another thread about I am new to investing, what should I do? is commendable, but a quick perusal on just the front page of this forum shows the following threads devoted to the subject:

http://www.city-data.com/forum/inves...unds-over.html

http://www.city-data.com/forum/inves...unds-etfs.html

http://www.city-data.com/forum/inves...oney-fast.html

http://www.city-data.com/forum/inves...irst-time.html

http://www.city-data.com/forum/inves...nt-invest.html

http://www.city-data.com/forum/inves...ng-dollar.html

http://www.city-data.com/forum/inves...ck-market.html

http://www.city-data.com/forum/inves...icks-mine.html

http://www.city-data.com/forum/inves...nt-invest.html

As you can see, those threads cover the broad range of topics about investing: real estate, gold, silver, starting out, mutual funds, value stocks, emerging market bonds, how does the dollar obtain its value and etc. Maybe you can raise an issue in one of these threads, or else be a bit more specific in this thread.

But, I am not Thread Cop, so if others want to join this ramble....

To TEAK:

Thanks for the links! Will certainly make great use of them.
My main aim is to ask around and search for some good informational/educational sites about stocks and investing that could be of great help.

Any free eBooks you might know of on the topic? It would be nice to find something regular to visit all the time as in Motley Fool is a great resource. Anything close or similar to Motley with the useful advice? Because it simply feels that there are a lot more knowledgeable people in this sphere that should have some stuff out there. I believe there should be something like it out there, so if what, I'll keep you posted.

As should be VERY clear to anyone of less than normal IQ by now, stock market is gambling, not investment. Follow rules of former.

Seeking Alpha is another site for free advice, but with any free advice, reader beware. I am not a big fan of Motley Fool because they are like infomercials: come-ons to purchase one of their newsletters, and most of the articles are rehashes of articles written months, or years, before.

Stock Market News, Opinion & Analysis, Investing Ideas -- Seeking Alpha

The best book that I have read on investing is Jeremy Siegel's The Future for Investors. He has a website, thus, you could access some of his articles for free.

Welcome to Jeremy Siegel.com

Another site that provides free information in its search for paid subscribers is Daily Wealth.

Steve Sjuggerud's DailyWealth

Finally, if you want to research those hot stock tips being put out there by those fishing for subscribers, but don't want to pay, go to the Stock Gumshoe. Just do a google search for the title of the stock tip; e.g., "America's Hidden Resource" + "stock gumshoe" and you will find the gumshoe's take on the tip. He searches out those companies being touted by the fishermen.

I have used Motley fool for many years, but I am starting to agree with Teak. It seems more about trying to sell you one of their services than stock reviews.

Thanks a lot for everything, looking good. Will get my hands on those books as soon as the possibility arises, thanks a lot!

And as for the stock market not being an investment, who said I'm gambling on daily trading? Its obvious that if I simply buy whatever stock is going up and sell it when its falling, that is gambling, no doubt. However, thats not why I'm in the stock market initially and thats not the approach I take.

Simply understanding the basis of business obviously explains Motley's trend to advertise themselves. I find nothing terrible in that and if they have something of value to offer, why not? Its simple, its business gentlemen, what else is there to it? People making a living, just like us.

Sure, but that then leads to our own business choice, which is not to waste time trying to escape MF pimpage. Charter has the freedom to send me a weekly solicitation in the mail. In turn, I have the freedom not merely to return them to sender, but to consider Charter an irritant and be less likely to sign up for their cable service.

You say your looking to expand your knowledge on the subject of stocks.
Well, when you expand it enough to understand that the stock market is just the best casino on earth and nothing else you'll be getting somewhere.
