I currently live in marion, iowa and i love it. I would not, however, agree that linn-mar is the "better" school district. Both me, my brother and my mother went through the marion school district and have greatly enjoyed our time attending there. Marion also has much smaller class sizes of between 130 and 180. Linn-Mar has much higher class sizes that are growing very rapidly, i have heard they have a kindergarden class of around 500, maybe more. My cousin recently graduated from linn-mar with a class of just over 400. Property Taxes are also MUCH higher in the linn-mar school district. Marion has the lowest property taxes in the cedar rapids area. Even though marion has smaller class sizes, it still offers nearly all of the athletics, activities and programs offered at linn-mar.

I was surprised at how high the L-M property tax rate is compared to the surrounding districts. It certainly will come in to play when I buy a house.
