Ute, Iowa
Anybody have anything to say about Ute? trying to convince my sig other to move there when we graduate. We are both going to school for computers and would most likely have to drive to Omaha or Sioux City for work, but I am still trying to convince him. He says there is nothing there, I say I like that kind of nothing. I did live there before several yrs. ago and around the Onawa area also. Spent some time in Denison too. Know a lot of people all around those parts. I will take any replies. Anyone know of any landlords there or around there.

I live in the area and I think it's a lot of fun in a novel, small-town way. The biggest attraction around there are the trails in the Loess Hills that are popular for hiking, bicycling, and equestrian enthusiasts. The highways are also becoming very popular for bikers trekking through the Loess Hills Scenic Byway. I find something fun every weekend, whether it's live music, karaoke, fund raisers, etc. If you're into horse stuff, I guess we have a lot of roping and barrel racing too. The casual social scene is fun, too, as long as you're good at making friends. Sometimes people move here and expect to fall right into a tight group. You'd need to go out to public events and possibly bars to get to know people. Once they know you, though, you're a friend forever. I know two people who own a lot of rental properties in the Charter Oak/Ute area, and would love to put you in touch with them--or with realtors since real estate is so cheap around here. I'll bet you could buy a cute house in town for $50K, but don't quote me on that. If you two are programmers, PCS in Denison is a great company that sets up software for utilities companies around the world (yes, they travel on-site to tropical locations). I'm friends with the owners and a few employees. Let me know if you'd like me to connect you with them as well.
