Does anyone have any information on West Liberty, Iowa? Is it a nice place, are there things to do, is it growing? Thanks.

It's relatively close to Iowa City, where there are tons of things to do. West Liberty is a tiny little itty bitty town
There is a good pizza place there though!! I'm trying to think if the town even has a stoplight.... |

West Liberty is a nice town if you know how to speak Spanish. This town has a few nicknames now like Wet Liberty and Little Mexico. I would avoid this town at all cost.

Why would you avoid a town with so much diversity and nice people? As for the nick names I am not sure who may use these "names" but It may sugjest a lack of insight or even igorance.

I can remember back in the day as we would be hanging out with friends and watch the INS trucks come in and grab a load of illegals from the Louis Rich plant and haul them back to Mexico. Happened about once a week. According to the locals, the same illegals would be back within a month.

Can't give you much on living there, but it's not far from me. As others have said it's not far from Iowa city, 2 hrs. or so to Des Moines, probably around 5 hrs. to Chicago or St. Louis. If you're a dirt track racing fan, there is a track that races every Saturday night from April til September right in town. If you don't like racing (noise) I'd suggest you figure out something out of town to do for Saturday evenings thru the summer months. Seems to be an ordinary small Iowa town, with a higher than average percentage of hispanics due to the meat processing plant right in town.

Who Calls this place those nicknames. People who give those nickname or repost them in a rude way are ignorant, non educated, racist people who have no culture.
West Liberty is a charming little town. Its true that its very diverse but thats what I love about it. Who would want to live in an all white town with now diversity or change. How boring. West Liberty is close enough to Iowa City and the Quad Cities where there is plently to do. Chicago is only about 2 and a half hours, 3 at the most away. The people are very friendly and welcoming, both white and hispanic. There are great places to eat like Hawkeye Pizza and Steak House and El Torritos. The town is very calm and quiet. Small town with beautiful brick streats and many beautiful older victorian homes. I have been in many places in the US and other countries, cities and small towns but West Liberty is still home. |

It was a nice place to live, but things are not like they used to be. As for the nickname of "Little Mexico" that is a sad statement. I am hopeful that the minority (the caucasians) will get with the city fathers and help get some of the old cars off streets and out of yards, and some of the messy yards tidied up. If you are going to live in Iowa, USA, be an AMERICAN and above all, speak ENGLISH!!!!!!!!!!
