Is Clinton really hilly like Dubuque?

Do they ever have severe flooding from the Mississippi River? If so, what areas should one live to avoid this?

It's not AS hilly as Dubuque but there are plenty of hills and high areas to choose from in the town and surrounding area.

They also put in a system of dikes so the general flood risk is fairly low IMO.

I am not a Clinton native, but I raised my children here and think it's a wonderful community. Smell? only near the industrial areas. It's beautiful along the river and the bluffs, it is safe (we keep our house unlocked during the day and our cars unlocked in the driveway), and there are many opportunities to become actively involved in the community. The people are warm and there are not as many disgruntled or unhappy people as you might think from reading the posts. It's close to many, many amenities and the pace of life is good--great small community to live in.

Clinton is not that great of a place overall. lol
People are friendly and helpful though.
But, if you go into downtown, I am willing to bet that at least 70 percent of the store fronts are empty.
Clinton was a booming little area at one time, but those days are gone.
I really would not recommend living there. I know people will get upset, but I am just telling the truth.
There are certain aspects of the town that are nice.. it seems like they are started to try and clean up the riverfront area and add some things down there and such.
(Most boring bar scene EVER, serious)
Not a whole lot of shopping in Clinton either.
When I was living there, I worked for Mercy Hospital. Decent job...
But I found myself always wanting to drive to the quad cities for entertainment and such.
I quickly found out that it would be much better just to live in Bettendorf or something.
You will find a lot of people commuting to the quad cities from Clinton anyway. Why not live there? lol
I have been to basically every town in Iowa.. And I would say if you are going to live in Iowa..
Live in the Iowa City area.
It is close to every major city in the state, and has a hopping night life...
Plus it is close to the IOWA80 truckstop. lol (24 hour mall people!)
I am in NO way trying to knock Clinton... I enjoyed my time there...
But, there are many other towns in Iowa I would pick over Clinton.
Dubuque is beautiful by the way.. But it is sitting up there all alone. lol
I like to be able to jump in the car and go shopping and have the larger metro areas near me.
And don't let everyone scare you about Davenport either.. I have never had trouble there.
In fact, I really enjoy Davenport. Tons of shopping! And the riverboats are fun too.
Just make sure to get a house up on the hill. hahaha. (Floods)
If you choose Clinton, good luck! The areas around Mercy hospital, and up near the park are quite nice. ($)

Quad Cities is about a half hour away, but they have high crime there and there's also a smelly factory there also (although no where near as bad as Clinton). It's a tad more costly to live in also, so you'd have to add that in plus the cost of commuting to work.

Dewitt is a nice small town relatively close to Clinton.
What are you talking about?? You obviously haven't been to the Quad Cities since the 1990's if at all .. It's one of the nicest areas in the state. Crime has been on a decline there and in Des Moines for the last two decades...
