Sioux City??? Can You Tell Me About It?

Unfortunately, Sioux City has a lot of rundown areas to it. Many rundown apartment buildings and homes surrounding the downtown area. Luckily the city is having a (slow) renewal and it does have it has a art, history and children's museum. There is a entire warehouse district close to downtown getting renovated into housing and the city is starting to get back on its feet.

I've visited a few times over the past year just to explore. And I don't see why anyone would dislike Sioux City. There are some nice neighborhoods with trees located on pretty rolling hills. There is a nice new shopping area on the SE side, with all the modern stores and amenities. The older part of town has some really interesting old buildings. The symphony is excellent, and I felt safe downtown at night. I'm picky about smells, and have never encountered any nasty smells.

It is true that there is that awful area of road construction on 29 that I remember suffering through during a trip about 15 years ago. Has it really never been finished? I've learned to take the lovely long cut through NE Nebraska via 12 &20. Now that's a pretty trip!

The interstate should be finished into 6 lane in 2020 but I guess after what I've seen with our road construction I wouldn't count on it.

Spent a little time in Sioux City for work. Area seems OK and pleasantly surprised at the retail space in SE. We're predominantly downtown, which is decent, but they need to do more work..

My parter and I plan to stay in Sioux City for the summer months (or until August) and would like to get everyone's thoughts on openness to LGBT folks. Not people in clubs, etc., but folks that just might be at a restaurant, at Target, or something similar. We've read that Sioux City is in the top 3 cities for LGBT acceptance. Clearly it's the midwest and fairly conservative, but we don't want to have to worry about these things.

This is an old thread and just based on what've I've seen over the last 6 months, it's nothing like it was in 2007 and 2008. I've always found people to be nice.

Would love other opinions.

Well, Sioux City is known for being extremely republican, with all with comes with that. Not my particular cup of tea.

But, really, how would anyone at Target or wherever know your sexual preference? Unless you hold hands or kiss in public, I guess. Then you'd probably at least get some dirty looks.
