How are Texans different from Iowans(other than my observations that some Iowans have more of a reserve you don't always find in Texas.)?

I'd say Iowans are much more reserved overall, especially around strangers. That "is" the major difference. Texans (and Southerners in general) for the most part tend to speak their mind. I'm not saying being reserved is a bad thing... it's kind of nice sometimes. But it is real different from dealing with people from Texas.

The population of Iowa per square mile is much lower... which may have something to do with it as well.

This is what I'm talking about. People here are much too polite. In Texas, there would have been much stronger language in that response.

I just hope there is some honesty because sometimes I tend to take reserve as "passively dishonest". For all I know, a reserved person might just have nothing to say for real, but I could be wrong.

Grackel, I know you're kidding around, but you've hit on a real sore point with me. I do not think it is possible to be too polite, and one of the things that really bothers me when traveling away from the midwest is the lack of politeness and courtesy one is more likely to encounter. Maybe that should be the state motto: "Iowa -- we're really polite." :-/ Just to warn folks who find that problematic!

People here are nice and polite. Yes, I was kidding before.

And also, I think Iowans are honest people... but reserved.

Texans are either really polite and super friendly... or they'll tell you to eat sh*t and not give a d*mn if it hurt your feelings.

ahh... I miss Texas.

I could not live in Texas. I know too many people (friends and relatives) who live there and are rubbing elbows with totally conservative, judgmental, religious neighbors. That is totally not for me! LOL! The cost of living sounds pretty awesome though.

Grackel, I've heard great things about Austin. I'm not sure where you live but Iowa City is a little bit like Austin.

Since Texas is such a big state, one that is so huge you just might need a passport to migrate to another state, I'm sure one could find somewhere your relatives aren't. How about Love County, the least populated county in Texas..., its part of a panhandle that slides under New Mexico. No water there, just lots and lots of jack rabbits. Cheap, cheap land. Lots of sand, wind and Texas gumbo.., mud to get stuck in.

At least with jack rabbits for neighbors, one could have some peace, no squabbling amoung your relatives or neighbors..., if its in law problems or neighbor problems you're trying to get away from.., unless you're a rabbit. You'd have to learn Spanish though.

Hey Oodles of Poodles..., I like you a lot. Bring your poodles, we'll have a great time! I'll just bet they'll like me too. Maybe they'll even give me a doggie kiss or two. slurp...,
