Frustrating...
I've Googled the heck out of Rhodes and can only find one pertinent piece of information: It used to be called Edenville. Nothing about when the name changed why, or who it might be named after. The obvious answer is Cecil Rhodes, but I wouldn't put money on it.

Strange to read this today, my wife and I took a drive to get our daughter to take a nap. We drove up to Colo, then south through Collins on the way home; Rhodes is just a few miles east of Collins, and we almost went that way just to say we'd been there.

Actually the town was renamed Rhodes because when the railroad was still there the land the train station was deeded over by C. Rhodes so the stop was named Rhodes. So to cut down on the confussion the whole town was renamed. Thats the story my grandma told me anyway I figure she should know as she lived there for 71 years.
Well the railroad is gone now but the right of way has been turned into a nature trail if you take it to the west towards Collins about a mile and a half out you will come across a huge concrete bridge (Hoy bridge amed for my great grandfather) if you get the chance iit is worth the walk to see it.
